It today's economy small business and artisans are not getting the opportunities they should, but a team of four artists are finding a way around that, with the launch of the family business, Art Dreams Gallery.
“My parents were craft potters making mugs by hand and selling them to the public and other small business for fair prices, they were successful and even had ceramics in Harrods, but forty years later such business cannot compete with cheap overseas imports, most of those small potteries went bust years ago, but there is a growing backlash against this disposable, fast-moving economy, people are looking for something handmade and looking for greener businesses.” Kirsteen Lyons, Artist
Artists, Gill Bustamante, Andrew Hodgson, Kitty Atkinson-Guy and Kirsteen Lyons have created Art Dreams Gallery to sell original, authentic artwork, with the low carbon footprint possible with an online-only business. No heat, light and power, no fuel used by visitors to the gallery means a very green business.
The artists invite you to look around your home and see what you own that was not mass produced, art is very important to people's personal happiness, art is soul food, without it life is just routine. Art Dreams Gallery plan to make the unique and authentic affordable and green.
The Art Dreams Galley artists:
Gill Bustamante BA: Gill is already a very successful artist who has been selling work online for eight years. She studied at Brighton Art School. She has painted all her life and now creates paintings of nature and life in an impressionist style, they are filled with light and meaning and lift you up to see them.
Kitty Atkinson-Guy BA (Hons): (Mum in the family business) Kitty studied stained glass and mural painting at the famous Glasgow Art School, since then she has exhibited regularly and started and run two potteries and a gallery. She paints dreamy landscapes you can escape into.
Andrew Hodgson BA (Hons) PGCE: (Son in the family business). Currently the head of a primary school, Andrew studied art in Chester and has his roots in fantasy art but now paints a wider range of subjects oftentimes inspired by his native Scotland.
Kirsteen Lyons BA (Hons): (daughter in the family business) Kirsteen is a professional textile designer, creating furnishing fabric design for a studio in Europe. Kirsteen has always painted vigorous mixed media landscapes and flowers often inspired by her adventures travelling widely.
